ADDITIONAL LOST BOYS SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Rules -   All series races will be under the jurisdiction of the Lost Boys Racing Team.  The official racing rules of the International Sailing Federation known as The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012, the prescriptions of the United States Sailing Association, except as any of these are changed by these sailing instructions will govern all series races.  All races will be designated Category B.

Entries -   For a boat to be officially scored, the participants should sail near the committee boat so that their sail number and type may be recorded.  It shall be the sole responsibility of each boat to decide whether or not to start or to continue the race.  By entering races the participants will save harmless The Lost Boys from whatever source causing injury or death to persons or damage to boats.

Notices -   Notices will be published on the Lost Boy Racing Team's  webpage prior to the beginning of each series.  Current handicap ratings will be probably be ignored.  A request for a non-spinnaker allowance must be made prior to the first race of a series but the request may or may not be accepted depending on the whims of the Lost Boys.

Course and Signals -   The race committee shall designate the sequence of start prior to the warning signal of the first class.  Each subsequent class will be posted between its preparatory and starting signal.  A signal board or marker board will be used to post the following.

Mark Roundings - Marks are normally rounded to port. A green flag indicates starboard rounding. A red / green flag indicates rounding marks from either port or starboard (tacticians' option).

Starting Signals -    Races will be started using rule 26 of The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012 with classes starting at 5 minute intervals in the order Winners, Losers, etc.  If less than three boats from one class are present for a start, then all boats may be started as one class.

Starting and Finishing Line -   The line shall be between the committee boat sequence flags and the starting and finishing mark.  All contestants shall finish on the most direct course between the Committee Boat and the finish mark from the direction of the previous mark.

Recall (Individual) -   Code Flag X will be displayed accompanied by one sound signal and the Lost Boys will attempt to notify the boat or boats who were on the course side at the start.  The boats who are OCS shall comply with rule 29.1 before starting.

Recall 9 (General) -   Code Flag First Substitute will be displayed accompanied by two sound signals.  When a general recall has been made rule 30.3 Black Flag Rule will be in effect for that class.

Time Limits -    The time limit for each class will be either sundown, whenever the Lost Boys on the committee boat get bored or if the gin run out.  One boat finishing within the time limit will make the race valid for that particular class.  Boats finishing later than the prescribed limit may be scored DNF at the discretion of the Lost Boys.  If no boat finishes within the time limit the race shall be abandoned for that class and we all drink the rum at the dock.

Scoring -   The low point scoring system will be used. Any boat competing in at least 50 % of the scored races in a series will be considered a qualified boat.

Automatic Abandonment -    Races will not be started and abandoned for the day if any of the following conditions exist 30 minutes prior to the start of the first race scheduled.  NOAA Weather will be used as the official source of current conditions.

The race committee may also abandon the races according to rules 27.3 and 32 if necessary.

Shortened Course -   The race committee may shorten the course to any mark prior to the rounding of any boat.

Safety -    All Coast Guard and State Laws concerning boating are to obeyed at all times.  When code flag Y is displayed it will be mandatory for all participants to wear life jackets.

General -    Neither the Waco Sailing Club, the Lost Boys Racing Team, its officers or members assume any liability whatsoever for the boats and equipment involved in a race sponsored by them nor any liability for the personal effects of or the personal injury of participants or spectators..
